On a cool night, the last day of March in the year 2007, a group of people share a common dream. To give something back to our dear, suffering planet. These people have made a commitment to themselves, to each other, to our planet. This commitment was simple, purposeful, and heartfelt. Even though is appeared symbolic, its effect was far more profound. For one hour, on this night, all extra, electrical equipment was switched off. It seems irrelevant, it seems needless, yet it is not. One person in isolation, is small. One small group in unison, will make a small dint. One large group in concert, can change our world. For just 60 short minutes, these people made a difference. They shared hope, a common goal, a Universal need. For they stood as one, on the shoulders of many. Do they understand what they did? Yes, they do! Do they know what they have achieved? May be, may be not, does is matter? Together, united, sharing, committed. It was Earth Hour! © Gary Dodd 2007 |
