There are many times in our lives, when we will feel alone. It is at these times that we may question our value in life. We may feel isolated, disconnected, and on the outer. This sense of loneliness can be overpowering. It can lead to people taking their lives. One of the most extraordinary gifts that you may receive from another person is an offer to walk with you. “I will walk with you”, simple, poignant, powerful. “I will walk with you”, says I accept you. “I will walk with you”, says I value you. “I will walk with you”, says I respect you. “I will walk with you”, says I am here for you. “I will walk with you”, says I want to be with you. These five words, in this combination, change any dynamics. When done with compassion, with respect, with integrity, with dignity, they empower both parties. From the brink of an abyss to a situation of mutual respect and regard, these words can do it. It does not take a desperate situation for such words to be used. It just takes a little bit of your time. Share your day with another, by offering to walk with that person. Watch a miracle occur before your eyes. For that is the power of sharing time with another. What are you doing, today? I would like to walk with you! © Gary Dodd 2008 |
