Why do you doubt your ability? Some may reply “It is easier to doubt my ability than to believe in it.” For if I was to believe in it, then I would have to act on it. Inaction, or the perception of inability is a powerful mechanism. It keeps you where you are. It ensures you remain within your comfort zone. Recognising ability and acting on it is very confronting. It says you have potential, you are extraordinary, you can do it. For some people this philosophy is second nature. For other people it is so foreign, that it is fanciful. Whether it be upbringing, socio-economic status, or life’s hard knocks, people are stuck with their perception. Or are they? A perception is a thought process. It is a creation of your mind. Like any creation it can be changed, improved, or eliminated. The important distinction is between perception and belief. If you believe in a perception, it is your way. If you acknowledge it as only a perception, you are free to accept or reject it. Everyone is awesome. Everyone has potential. Everyone has ability. The importance is to recognise it. Look within, look at what you do, you will see what you can do, what you want to do, what you will do. Stretch beyond what is, to what could be. Reach for the stars, for it is where we all belong. You ability is your gift. You can, you will, you are, already doing it. Believe it, feel it, see it, be it. © Gary Dodd 2006 |
