He steps outside into the night. A moment before, heavy rain and strong winds would have welcomed him. For just a moment, a brief respite permeates the air. The wind brisks his face. the rain is nowhere to be. He feels the freshness of the air circle his body. He walks along a pathway, just a short distance. Before him, sits a rabbit under a lamp. Both of them in clear sight of each other. Neither move, both watching, aware of the other. The man steps forward, the rabbit remains still. In the eerie pause of the stormy night, both silently, intuitively, acknowledge each other. With a purposeful step, the man moves away. Touched by the simplicity and serenity of the moment of interaction. He walks back inside, closing the door behind him. As if on queue, the wind sprouts new life, the skies let loose a barrage of rain. For all of a few seconds, he witnessed, he experienced, he enjoyed, a brief respite. © Gary Dodd 2007 |
